1. playing an instrument
2. subtle/natural/ non glamours image
3. naturtal location
4. soft focus
5. slow pace editing

genre research - acoustic folk
In Ed Sheeran's video drunk
you can tell the difference between the verse and the chorus by when the chorus
is being sung the music gets quicker and its the same chorus throughout and you
can hear by the music changing that it is the chorus. The video just flows on when it comes to the chorus it doesn't come back to the singer singing it carries on with the storyline. When Ed is in the pub he
drinks a shot it’s drinking with the beat and when he bangs glasses with the
cat it is also on the best of the music. When Ed and the girls go home they are
dancing and the editing is done so that every time they change camera angle it
changes to the beat. In the video the main character is Ed and you see close
ups of his face and his facial expressions so that you know he is the main
star. In percentage about 50% of the video is related to the lyrics because
they are getting drunk and the lyrics are about getting drunk. You see them
having shots and drinking beer. The overall concept of this music video is that
Ed is trying to get over a girl and y doing that he is going out and getting
drunk with a cat but in the end of the video you see that Ed was really asleep
and none of it happened and he was dreaming.
In Ben Howards music video keep your head up they are crating a slide to go down the the woods by a river. The video is how they progress on building the slide and then going down it. You cannot tell in the video when the chorus is because they carry on and don't change hen the chorus is playing is stays the same. The video flows on and carries on with the story line. The beat and the visual do not go together. There is not connection between the beat of the song and what is going on in the video.
They do not promote the star until you see the characters going down the slide. You see the star going down the slide holding a camera in front of him not someone videoing from the outside of the slide.
In this video the percentage of the visuals linking to the lyrics is 0% there is no connection between what they are singing and what they are doing in the video.
The overall concept of the video is keeping your head up and having fun with your friends which they are doing by creating a slide and jumping into the river with each other.
In Gabrielle Aplin's music video please don't say you
love me the video is about a couple and the girl is Gabrielle herself and they
are going on a road trip and there car breaks down. The difference in the video
when the chorus and the verse is being sung is that you always see Gabrielle
singing the chorus close up to her face whereas the verses are explaining the
storyline.
In this video there is no connection between the beat
and the visuals.
To promote the star in the video you see close ups of
her face when she is singing. She is also the main charter in the story so you
get to see her throughout.
In this video the lyrics and the visual link about 25%
throughout. Gabrielle is singing about saying you love someone and your partner
not saying it back and this happens in the video.
The overall concept of this video is being in a
relationship and one person saying they love the other and not getting it said
back and getting upset but it doesn’t mean that they still don’t like each
other.

Lyric mood board - initial inspiration
My initial inspiration has
arisen through connecting with the lyrics. My mood board is very dark and sad
because the lyrics are about someone who does not feel apart of this world and
someone who wants to run away from everyone because they are being bullied. They
feel disconnected, which is the title to this song and it makes me think about
plugs being disconnected from the sockets and a lonely girl sitting in a dark
room by herself not wanting anyone to get in or for her to go outside. My main
vision at the moment is a recurring motif of a girl running (looking pained,
sad, anguished) but never reaching a destination. Another key idea is at the
end of the video for a character to disconnect all of the electrical appliances
in the room and to be faded to black t represent her depression.

the autuer theory
the auteur theory
the auteur theory is a theory is that the auteur brings something unique and personal to each of the video which they make. this shows the directors own creative vision which you can recognise straight away.
Chris Cunningham has his own unique style which you can see in his videos that he has created. for example in Aphex twins 'come to daddy' and madonna 'frozen' in both videos there are similar styles. Cunningham likes to use dark colours like black and grey. Watching his videos makes you feel very uncomfortable. he also liked to use CGI and very quick pace shots and editing.
We also looked at Hype William's and several of his videos Beyonce 'check up on it' and Kayne West 'gold digger'. by watching his videos you can see that he has a unique stle. he is very secist andlikes to show off womens bodies

3 different types of music videos
Narrative
A narrative music video is when there is a story throughout the music video.
Performance
A performance video is an artist being filmed singing and performing for the video in front of a crowd or not
Conceptual
A conceptual video is an abstract idea which has no correlation to the music its just very random and crazy.

the search for my artist
To find my artist i knew a girl in called Florence Hearn who sings in my school. I asked her if i could use one of her songs but she only had covers of songs of which i could use. Over the summer she wrote a song a bout bullying and said that i could use it off of her official website and she said she is going to get a copy on a CD for me.
